On the forums at planetcatfish.com, they said that you can keep 8 pygmy cories in a 5 gallon tank. Is this true? I was originally going to put 1 betta and 6 cories in my 10 gallon but if that info is true, I maybe put 8 or 9 cories. Any comments?

I just wanna make sure so I don't overstock my tank. Does anyone have a definite answer?

What type of filtration/make & model of filter?

Hi Valyrian :)

You would probably be fine keeping 8 or 9 of any of the 3 different kinds of pygmy corys in your 10 gallon tank, even with a betta in there too.

However, I would choose fewer but larger corys, for example 5 bronze or albino C. aeneus. These corys are much more substantial fish and as such they are more likely to get along with a betta than the tiny little ones are.

I keep several bettas in my cory tanks and it's a joy to watch them following the corys around as they go about their business, digging in the sand and swimming all around in a group. :D

I have 6 tailspot pygmys, 2 striped pygyms, 2 peppered and a sterbai cory with a Betta in a 5 gallon tank.

May seem overstocked but it seems absolutely fine... Its the only tank i have ever had success with a plant in (anubias on bogwood). And the fish have been happy/healthy for a while now.

The filtration however would be suited for up to a 10 gallon quite easily.
