If there is a bright spot in the universe I'm in t
I am very curious about adding an African Dwarf Frog to my fish tank. It's a ten gallon with 1 Red Tail Shark and 2 Swordtails. They get along great, the Red Tail has a little cave that is all his own and the Swordtails just swim all over. I have a heater, lights, filter. Can I safley put a frog in the tank? Has anybody had a similar experience? Well he mix well with my current fish? Will there be any fighting or aggression? Thank you for any advice at all!!

Red tails are territorial though usually not to other fish. Some are, but that's just personality. With frogs, I'm not sure what kind of reaction to expect, whether it would see a frog as an invasion of territory or a possible meal.

in the world of fish there are many unusual and unexpected acceptions to the rules
for instance, an african dwarf frog, is a very community fish with comical swimming patterns and "zen like" resting positions
usually, in a tank with larger or more aggressive fish this frog should not be kept
he posses no thret or harm to any of your fish, but cannot easily defend himself
your tank in question, should be an alright enviroment provinging there are more then a few hiding places
keep a tight lid, or your little guy is sure to escape
most adfs spend a great deal of time in what seams like "meditation"
so in my opinion the shark won't much care to protest his presence and your tank will be at peace

on the other hand, you have a red tailed black shark,
netorious for being th "beauty and beast" addition to ones tank (a rather moody fish)
while still small, these sharks are pleasant, clumsy, and often befriend other fish in their territory
but once they reach maturity (usually around half the size of full grown) their territorial traits begin to show
this beautiful and now graceful fish will readily give chase to anyone in "their" territory
the smaller the tank, the less space, the less territory and the more grumpy
these sharks are often mistakenly kept in smaller tanks (such as your 10gallon)
this is not a good way to keep these fish
they should not be kept in anything less then a 20gallon, but are best kept in even larger a tank
remember, this shark is a territory hog (and can reach 5-6" long)
in a ten gallon he may take over the entire tank when mature
if he is kept in something alot larger, such as a 33gallon and up,
he will be a beautiful and for the most part peaceful addition to your tank

not to lecture, but to inform :flowers:
i know when i started out, the more information i was provided
the more knowledge i would obtain
and the more quickly i would learn

so basically to sum it up,
yes the frog would go with your combination of fish
but if i were you i would either give the shark to a nice home and we can help you find another fish to go in its place that will fit your tank size perfectly while still looking breathtakingly stunning
OR
you could look for another tank :hey:
you'll have the perfect excuse

any more questions?
just ask
or pm me
