I've heard that sea urchins are bad for display tanks because they eat the red algae on the live rock..the urchin is white in color...should i put him in my display tank or sump?

Why do you want one? Aesthetics? Algae control? Other reason?

Their other drawback is an ability to "bulldoze" rocks and corals not properly secured... Thats more detrimental IMO

well the only reason i have him is i got him secondhand with the rest of the livestock from a guy that sold me his entire setup. so im mainly wondering where i should put him so as not to disrupt any asthetic or needed growth in my display tank?

If you grow algae in the sump or are willing to feed him algae, I'd put it there :)
