Can purple up be used to give corals the nutrients they need? i have a friend that uses it not only to maximize coraline algae growth but also to feed his corals. His tank looks great.

I've heard of this but have never actually tried to use it. I just feed my corals plankton and actual food when I'm feeding the fish.

I'm using it, it's amazing stuff, or at least I'm using the Kent marine stuff. But don't use it without ancapcium test kit! You have to be careful not to over do it!

From what I know, purple up is mainly calcium. Be careful how much you use or you may find yourself with an outrageously high calcium level.

Im going to dod what my friend does. He gives his 75g the recomended amount for a 55g.

Darn You Auto Correct!! How the heck does Calcium become "ancapcium"?!

No wonder noone understood me!

Personally I wouldnt use it at all without knowing what your calcium levels are in your tank! Not more than once anyway.

You are looking at someone who obliterated a nano reef tank with calcium. Its generally meant to sit around or just either side of the 450 mark... i stopped doing the test when it 1600 and the test still wasnt reacting (several times!). I was dosing essential elements and using purple tech that i hadnt considered that it was calcium! Nor that calcium was in essential elements too! Killed everything, liverock, corals... etc, not the fish but they did look ropey.

Man, so happy now that I just do water changes and don't keep anything particularly difficult.

Red Sea Coral pro, you do the math for me...

I know I'll eventually have to add something.

:)

My friend doesnt dose anything. he just adds purple up and does water changes weekly

Adding purple up IS dosing. He is waiting for a disaster if he isn't testing, as was already stated.

I use Reef Crystals and still have to add Calc, Alk and mag. I have acans, chalices, and sps corals. Dosing is sooo easy. I still have some C balance to use up, but have already used up my magnesium due to needing to add soo much to raise just 100 ppm (I think it's ppm anyway...lol). I bought Bulk Reef Supply's basic mixing kit and mixed my magnesium. I have to add 13oz!! just to raise it 100ppm in a 49g water volume.
