lfs said they would be best kept with cichlids, such as firemouths etc.
seems a little risk'ay... any advice, on tank mates or is it best to stick with species tank?

also found a picture on the net with purple gudgeon and preacox rainbows in the same tank, seem a little too expensive to be feeder fish :look:

You have to be careful what kind of cichlids you put them with .

Mogurndas can seem , and occasionaly can be tough , but they are a very even tempered fish , hungry most of the time , very responsive to the owner IME .

We've had ours with a Severum , and a surinam geophagus , and he got pushed around a little, nothing life threatening . He was with a jewel ciclid for less than a day [ got beat up ].

Now he's in with a Uaru , baby rainbow cichlids , leopard bush fish, an african butterfly fish , and a couple of small plecos [ 4 1/2 "].

He'll end up with the butterfly and the plecos most likely .

As far as cichlids , get the more peace species , but it depends on the fish.
Spicies tank would be the best for him though JMO .

Our PSG, Sheila, shares her tank with two blood parrots of roughly the same size. They argue over who gets the mealworms, but otherwise ignore each other.

There are two bristlenose plecs in there too.
