I have two of these fish. And a couple of days ago it died out of know where...he was eating fine and looking good, then the next morning he was dead  , he was about 5-6inches big. I have had him for about 3 years and bought him about 1.5 inches big. How long do they live? He was living in a 40gallon tank along with one other purple spotted, 2 silver scats, 2 mono argentenus, and 1 acher.

here is a pic of him LiQuId BluE

If you were keeping them in brackish water then that would explain the sudden death, as said Morgurnda species are FW and being kept in salted water would have caused the kidneys to overwork which shorterns their lives andn results in sudden unexplained deaths.

I STARTED to put some salt before i moved out and every since then...there has been no salt added...that is already 7 months. And everytime i go to visit my house in san diego...where this tank is...i feed my fish crickets. I am so sad me died.

it is brackish...ish that my dad doesnt know how to measure and mix the salt to put in it...I live on my own cause of skol...but they are brackish fish..but still fairly young. Cause i heard that they can stay in freshwater for awhile and then go brackish and then eventually salt. That's true rite?

Many brackish fish will spawn up river in freshwater and then go back to the esturies and mangrove swamps that they normally live in, when the young hatch they live in freshwater for a while before they too travel down river to the brackish areas. Since the fish we get in the stores are already young adult fish they should be aclimatised to brackish water as soon as possible after purchase.

Do you realise the eventual adult sizes of your fish? All of those with the exception of the purple spotted gudgeon can grow to at least 10", you are going to need to upgrade to a minimum of a 75g in the near future.

yea i knoe my fish are goin to get big for the tank...when i move back home i am goin to upgrade my tanks...and hopefully all 3 tanks. :D when i first nought my monos and scats they were about a quarter to half a quarter size and now about 4 inches
