Today Ive ordered some Seachem Purigen for my tank and I was wondering if anyone else has used it. I plan on putting it into my external filter and I presume it goes into a filter bag but how much and on what level should it go? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!
many thanks

I've used it. It can be put anywhere in the filter after your mechanical filters. Yes it goes in a media bag, its very small, so be careful of how you seal up the bag. I can't remember the exact amount used the bottle will tell you. Great stuff I think I've clean and reused mine at least half a dozen times by now.

Sorry to sound like an idiot but what do you mean by 'mechanical filters'. I just have the sponge type filters in there right now plus some white looking macaroni at the bottom :)

I think thereverendturtle means after the impeller - the bit that spins (like a propeller,) and forces water through the filter medium (Sponge.)

Mechanical filtration is sponges etc that filter out any large particles. Biological filtration is bio balls and ceramic rings which is usually where the bacteria live. Eventually mechanical filtration will become biological too.

The best place for Purigen is near the end of the waters path through the filter. Works a treat. :)

Also, if you don't happen to have a spare media bag then use an old pair of tights and just tie the ends. :good:

You can recharge Purigen by soaking it in bleach and then in dechlorinator afterwards. Have a look on their website for more info. :)

Thanks again for that useful info. Hope to get my purigen in the post tomorrow and gonna buy some carbon too cause ive just finished an ich treatment and want to make sure there are no traces of the blue stuff left!! Great that you can keep reusing purigen cause its not cheap stuff to buy.
