Hi
I'm in that state of conflict we must all get to at some point, when two things we want to do for the benefit of the fish appear at odds with each other. I currently use purigen in my discus tank. However, I'm maturing a new 300ltr set up in which I want 2 externals. One normal biological, the other I intend to use for peat and water polishing. I also thought I'd dose with Blackwater extract. The problem is I believe the purigen will remove alot of the tanins and organic extracts, diminishing the benefits and aesthetic appearance. My quandary is what's gonna benefit my discus most? The purifen, or the creation of a darkened, tanin stained water full of bio- goodies? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

When in doubt,
go the natural route.

;)

There is no doubt on one bit. Purigen will indeed remove the tannin appearance.

You don't need the purigen, it's good for clear water, but it's not compatible with blackwater.

That's what I was getting at, only more poetic (or at least more rhymey).

Thanks. I guess I was concerned about the impact on having it in one tank, and then removing it when I switch the eheim over to the new set-up. Appreciate your input
