I went to my LFS, They sold me a tank at his wholesale price. I thought he was bullsh*****g me, but he let me see his book. My tank in other stores were hundreds more. He added 15% to make a little something, but price was still better than any similar ones available near me at other stores!

He said to me I dont want the price of the tank to stop you from getting into the hobby, and since I know I have some of the best fish in town (with prices to match), you will be comingto me for fish and other things as long as you are in this hobby

I am currently in my fishless cycle, and I dont know about others. However, while in this stage (no fish) I find myself checking out all places that sell fish in my area. And that LFS store does have what seems to be the best selection and prices around.

So while he did not make a great deal off the sale of tank, imagine what a dedicated customer for the next 5, 10,15 or 20 years will make him. And seing that he has been in business for 16 years, and has customers who drive from upto an 1hr away to see him, I guess that what works for him
