Pump Question - Urgent

Copied this from coldwater cause there's more people here - please help!

"I've got some treating for ick my goldsish seems to have it. The treatment says to remove carbon from my pump if it has any, but i'm not sure which bit the carbon is! It's the HBL-501 hanging filter. Not sure if anyone is familiar with it, but it came with the tank, has no instructions and the writing on the box is mostly japanese/chinese. It's got a white fiber type material in it as well as a big black sponge. Either of these carbon?

I would remove the black sponge as that sounds like your black carbon.

I would just be aware if its a big black sponge, you might be removing alot of the filter bacteria when you do it, so keep a close eye on your water stats, if your ammonia levels show anything, start doing small water changes until its 0.

the black sponge is carbon remove it and replace with normal media sponge all will be ok
