I'm looking for a pump to power a TMC vecton 25 uv unit, but I'm a bit confused as to what type I need. Is this a closed circuit system? any advice on type of pump of examples would be great please people

any pump with a max flow rate of 1700lph will be fine. anything over this won't use the UV to it's full capbility.

somthing like 1 of the larger Ehiem pumps would be fine. The advantage with them is that you could mount it outside the tank rather than having a large pump inside.

I think the best way to do it would be to buy the 16/22mm inlet bend with strainer to go in the tank then use the ehiem 16/22mm green hose onto the pump mounted outside the tank, then more hose from pump to UV then from the UV to the tank maybe return it with a spray bar from some more surface disruption.

hope this helps.

Can you suggest what manufacturer to go for? Don't mind spending some extra money as long as I'm getting quality. was thinking about an eheim?

yeh all of the parts I'ved mentioned are ehiem.

your LFS should have a spares catalogue for them if they can get ehiem and should easily beable to get you the parts.

depending on your stocking and current filter you might want to buy an external filter instead and attach the UV to the piping on the tank inlet.

seeing as the cost of a ehiem external and the ehiem pump are far apart depending onthe model of filter you might aswell do that after you have found and bought all the parts it's going to be alot easier and even cheap.

I'm getting an eheim 2128 thermo this week, so will try attaching the UV and see what it does to the water flow. I've had this debate (UV on outlet) elsewhere on the forum, and some people seemed to think that it would slow water flow too much.

However, as I'm going to be keeping plecs, fairly strong current is a good thing, so having 2 sources returning wouldn't be bad.

I looked at the eheim pumps, and I'm a little concerned about the intlet. Would is be big enough/powerful enough to cause cories and tetras problems?

sorry i didn't reply in a while...

I wouldn't worry about the flow return, i would be condident running 1 on my my tank which runs a 350l ehiem of a 360l tank.

This is the filter suplied with the tank so ehiem must allow for things like UV's.

by the way is your UV 2nd hand? if it is then it would be worth ripping it apart and giving it a good clean to rid rid of any limescale. I bought a 2nd hand 25W and i'm surprised if the UV was doing anything for the old tank in the state it was.

There are quite a few different ehiem pumps now, but depending on the size of your tank 1700lph really isn't that much!! and if you house the pump in the cabinet below the tank it will reduce the flow even more.
