We plan on buying a pulsing xenia, possibly tomorrow. My PH, after having initial trouble, is now stable at 8.2 and has been for a few weeks. It tends to drop to 8.1 overnight though. I read that a xenia needs 8.3+ to pulse.. anyone know how accurate that is? Is it worth me buying one at all if my PH is too low... ? should I be buffer the salt mix for each water change to increase the PH to 8.3+??

hmmm i never knew it was that sensitive to ph, we've got some sprung up from nowhere in our tank, not enough to tell if it's pulsing or not just got a couple of polyps. i think our pH is 8.2 as well though

hmmm indeed. I read on wetwebmedia that they are very sensitive to PH, apparenty they can't survive anything lower than even 8.0... Ack! You never know what to believe!! let me know how yours get on though Miss Wiggle :good:

yeah i will do, like i say at the moment it's literally just a couple of polpys sprouted up on some LR that one of our coral's is on so it's a little hard to say if it's done well or anything?!?

gonna test the pH tonight as well :good:

Interesting, I'm getting some pulsing xenia probably tomorrow aswell!

My pH is a stable 8.2, but I've not heard about the pH 8.3 thing?

my xenia seems to be doing fine, it pulses quite regularly! my ph sits at about 8.2 but just after my water chage hits about 8.3-8.4, it doesnt pulse any more at this time, i think water movement is more important it seem to like quite a strong current :)

There's some truth to that, but not much. My xenia wont pulse if the pH is below 8.0. In the 8.0-8.4 range it pulses, the higher the pH, the more pulsing. Understand, its not that it doesnt pulse at 8.0 just not as often or as vigorous as at higher pH. Also, if my salinity creeps up to 1.027 or higher it will shrivel up. Wont die, just shrivel. I must admit, I rarely test for calc/alk/sg anymore unless my xenia doesn't look right . When you get comfortable/familiar with it, its such a good indicator of water chemistry that you almost dont need to test ;)
