As per the title really, has anyone seen or got the Pulser coral? Looks superb, just like a hand opening and closing and when you touch it the hands all close up..

Saw it in my LFS at the weekend, i thought it was amazing!

Pulsing Xenia is the layman's name for it. Stuff grows like a weed when water quality is good :).

It really depends what else is in your tank. If you have hard corals, like SPS, you probably would hate the stuff. If you kept softies, aslong as you kept it back so it doesnt get stung, you should be right.

Nope, Xenia does not sting, but it is prone to the stings of others ;)

It is one of the most interesting types of corals you can have...but...you will NEVER find it in my tank. I'll watch it at the lfs or in other's tanks....grows like weed. SH

I love it, it's currently going crazy in my tank (not grown yet) but looks superb and as I have lots of room it can grow as much as it likes around my live rock :D

Do the fish like it at all?
Also does it need any food or does it just grow and live in the water like plants do?

I know this sounds silly but is there any particular reason as to why the hands open and close, is it trying to grab something or is it just a way of breathing?

I got one over the weekend. Love the look of it, having to find a good spot for it because the powerheads keep blowing it about too much!

Yeah i can see its getting blown about, mines near enough at the very front of my tank and very happy. They currently open and close within 1 second, there isnt a single stem that doesn't open / close either :)

Light is the key, without strong / bright light's they aren't happy.

The most commonly accepted idea is that the pulsing is a means of gas exchange. While we are on the topic of corals stinging; what soft corals will sting other soft corals?

My torch coral stung my hammer coral lol. Its died at the part it got stung not going to move it though. Its stung the part it can reach so I will monitor and make sure it can't get the rest. They look too good at the current placement to move them! My xenia is doing superb its already started to spread! It was a nano frag at first buts grown, best $18 I have spent!

You can see the wrath of the sting from the torch to the hammer. You can also see my elegant above the torch.

lol its only been like a week or so since jeff posted that picture and i feel like our xenia is twice as big!

I have 2 different species of pulsing xenia. The elongata and a shorter more clover leaf variety. The former (more common) grows like wildfire and can easily be a bane to even the most enthusiastic reef owner.
The good thing about it is that you can trade lots of this stuff to your LFS for credit. I have paid for many things on the back of pulsing xenia alone!

The latter of my xenia is a slow grower so i cant make much money from this stuff. Looks far better than the elongata though.
