bought a bit of rock today that had 3 pulse corals stuck to it.
one is a n inch with around 10 fan bits, one is inch and half with 15 fan bits and the larger one is about 2 inches with 30-40 fan bits.
they were all stuck to the rock but when got home the larger one had come unstuck and stuck itself to a bit of sea weed. the bit of sea weed was stopping it getting a foot on a rock so with a bit of very gentle persuation is came off.
ive put it up the top of the tank in a gap in a rock, been their for a few hours now and its not stuck to the rock, will it after a while?
also not all of the fan bits are open, sometimes they are all shut then some open then all of them are open.
do they deflate like other nems?
the small one has now shut completly up and gone to about quater of an inch big? is this normal???

Sorry to correct you but I couldn't help myself; "fan bits" = polyps and xenia is not an anemone.

I have no experience with Xenia but I think most soft corals tend to attach quite quickly and will start getting a decent hold after a week or so.

This is a pretty good article about Xenia; http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-02/ac/feature/index.php and a google search will find you a lot more.

I think you need to do a bit of reading up on your livestock before buying.

It will stick to the rock if it's held in place

I use a rubber band

It is fairly normal for Xenia to deflate

Hya, Parts of my pulsers break off regularly, bop about around the bottom of the tank for a bit then attach themselves in various places within a few days. They will often just close up and look serously ill for a while (until you get to know them) then the next time you look they'll be fine. Also sometimes they will stop pulsing for no apparent reason - just what they do. I have found them the least troublesome of any coral/invertebrate and some of mine have run the gauntlet (having a carpet nem land on them, aptasia etc - they always seem to come through fine and reproduce quickly. I have about 7 seperate colonies when i started with a tiny bit which had broken off in the LFS and they threw it in for nothing!
