Hello all!

Well, after regular tank maintenance was established, my Ich seems to have gone!
I took the adivce I got from you all and added a protein skimmer and LS...All of my fish seem much more active and alert!
Sadly I did lose my remaining clown, my yellow tank and 1 damsel.....

I now have one starfish, 1 bar goby, 1 flame angel, 3 damels...1 cowfish

I will be ading a cleaning crew ASAP...
But I had a quick ?
I saw a dogfaced puffer, is it possible to add it to my tank? if not, are there any puffer-type fish I could add?

Thanks in advance!!

Sera

Unfortunately it is no surprise the Tang died but at least it has solved one of the many issues in your tank. You still have to remove the Cowfish though before you even think about adding more as it is totally unsuitable for your tank and will kill everything if it dies, in that sense you are extremely lucky it was the Tang that died and not the Cowfish.

All I can say is you really need to do research on the fish before even contemplating them in an aquarium as your previous additions have been far from suitable (A basic google search will tell you that a dogfaced puffer requires a tank twice the size of yours, preferably carnivore only, it is not reef safe and grows to around 12", so again not a suitable fish for your tank).

IMO you should make arrangements for the removal of the Cowfish asap and then let the tank settle for a while to ensure that the diseases are under control and you have a good grasp of water husbandry. Use the time to research and plan your tank additions carefully to avoid any future disasters.

Well Aquascaper,

Thats why I'm here...to ASK BEFORE I add the fish!!!! :grr:

As for the death of the tang, I don't appricate the crass manner in which you spoke of it's death, which is something I feel awful about, so for you to say...
"Atleast it solves one problem" is, IMO un-called for....
I've done my best to follow the advice, which is why I added the LR protein skimmer, and LS....
As for using Google to find out if I could have the puffer, well....isn't thar what his site is for? fish related question?????

The very first word of my post explains the sentiment intended but still........

The point is that we all have to take some responsibility for our own research, it's all well and good saying that this forum is here so i'll just ask on here but it is also on the internet, it doesn't take a lot to do some of the work yourself and it is a good habit to get into. There's a saying "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink", the same goes for fishkeeping - we can give advice and explainations but we can't make people understand, that is why personal research is vital.

I still stand by the sentiment that the Tang dying has solved a problem as i'm an optimist and try to look for the positive in a situation. If it hadn't died your tank would still be stocked with the wrong fish and more than likely the stress of a fast swimming Tang would have killed the Cowfish and nuked your tank. If that seems crass or harsh then i'm sorry but you created the situation, now hopefully you'll learn from it.

This is after all just my opinion and, this being a forum, i'm free to express it

i agree with aquascapper. right now your best bet would be to rehome the cowfish(they have toxins and if/when it dies they will be released and they will kill everything in your tank) and let the tank settle for several weeks. this way you can make sure you can get the water quality to were it should be and make sure the fish and all other inhabbitants are happy and healthy. IMO the only thing i would add at this time would be a cleaning crew. go lightly on feedings and be very religous about water changes. because it was ich that you had in your tank i suggest NOT ADDING ANY FISH to your tank for a MINIMUM OF 2 months to make sure all the ich is gone(saltwater ich can live several week with out a host)

even though it is sad that the tang died i do agree it was for the best. you would had to have gotten rid of it anyway becuase it would stress out the other fish and it also need lot and lots of room to move. NAV knows a lot about tangs so i would ask him. tangs should NOT be kept in any tank less than 100 gal. btw tangs grow to about 1 foot if you didnt know.

while the tank is settling down now would be the best time to reaserch what and how many fish are campitble with your tank, current inhabbitants, and any other inhabbitants you plan to add.

Okay....

Sorry if I seemed a bit sensitive about the tang, but I felt really bad about it....

I have rehomed the cowfish at the LFS, TBH he wasn't thriving in my tank anyway...he will be missed, but it is best the LFS finds a better home for him.

I guess it's a good thing I only live 5 minutes from the LFS...LOL

Good thing indeed. I have to agree with the sentiment to wait for a long while before you add any extra fish to the tank. Concentrate on getting your cleanup crew settled first. If you have the right lighting, filtration, and water movement, you could consider adding some sessile inverts (corals/anemones) if you were planning on doing so. Search around the web for some ideas, or visit your LFS for some brain teasers on what if any you want to add.

I have scanned the thread and i dont see a tank size for these fish. Cowfish/Tangs and puffers really need large tanks. I would not consider anything less than 100 gallons for these fish.
The loss of your fish is hard to take and im sorry its happened, ( i speak from experience as i have lost plenty in my time :/ ). Dont however start to take things to heart when you lose a fish.. its loss, although tragic is a complete waste of time and worthless if you cannot learn from the experience. IF you have gained more experience and knowledge about learnng the hobby from the death of your fish then their loss can at least be put to good use so further deaths can be put to a minimum.

I completely agree with the comments above and urge you to wait at least 6-8 weeks before progresig with more fish. The tank seems very new and is still unstable, it takes a good year before the tank is mature enough to take on large bioloads etc and so far you have added fish that give out large amounts of ammonia and waste.. the dogpuffer will only make thi worse as they are very messy eaters and give out large quantities of waste.

I have seen a dog faced puffer nearly 2ftl in length!!!!  They get big and can be very nasty. Make sure your tank can take such a fish in the long term or you will run into a whole hoard of problems later on.

Then nope

This tank is suitable for dwarf angels and fish that will grow no larger than 5 inches IMO.

puffers, boxfish, tangs and large angels will not work well in this sized tank :/
