hi
as many of you know i am getting a 16 us gal biorb and currentley intend on a solitery dwarf puffer however i was wondering are their any other freshwater puffers you could keep alone in that setup
p.s this is just curiosity

I believe the next size up freshwater puffer would be a South American Puffer. However, they'll require around 10/15G each, and in a bio-orb they would not be ideal at all. Seeing as all from that will only be bigger, I don't think there's much else.

I kept an SAP in a 20 gallon and in future I wouldn't keep one in anything less. That's not to say an SAP in a biorb woldn't work, but as far as I'm aware it isn't possible to add an external filter to a biorb, which would mean frequent water changes.

By all means go for it, but be prepared for more maintenance more regularly than usual.

Of course, there are other factors to keeping an SAP, including their requirements for teeth trimming, and the fact that they don't tell well to medication so it is even more imperative to keep their water clean. By all means go for it but I would have said the odds are stacked against you.

Other freshwater puffers that you could keep in a small tank are T. lorteti/C. irrubesco. Check the pufferlist for more details.

Yeah, and very hard to come by. A member on here is holding a pair for me on the other side of the country right now as I simply can't find any where I live. They're easil confused with T. Lorteti as well, which grow larger and are considered more aggressive.

typical i will probably end up with dps but i love red eye red tail puffers  :*)

There's nothing wrong with DP's believe me. I recently managed to get hold of some and they're incredible fish, full of character. They'll be a lot more active than the C. irrubesco as well, despite their size. They're always curious when I have my hands on the tank, and recognise my face when I go to feed them. Don't think you're getting short changed with DP's, they're great
