Hi, I was in a shop and I say these puffers labelled as Mba puffer, they were light skinned and had black markings, can anyone I.D. them for me or give me an idea of what they are?

Sound like "mbu puffers", Tetraodon mbu, a very large freshwater species. Wild fish supposedly reach more than 60 cm long, though captive specimens seem to be around 30 to 40 cm long when fully grown. Anyway, this species is very widely kept. Some variation in behaviour, with certain specimens being tolerant community fish (for their size) while others (most?) being very aggressive and predatory.

Because of their size, sensitivity to poor water quality (nitrAtes), high oxygen consumption, and inconsistent behaviour, these fish are generally considered to be for the advanced hobbyist only.

Cheers,

Neale

Tetraodon MBU is recommended on some puffer sites to require a whopping 1000 gallon tank. Some people consider this too much, some too little.

They are giant fish, that can grow enormous and can be expensive to feed and give adequate tank filtration. If you decide to buy one, please be sure to look after it correctly, and give it the adequate housing it will deserve.
