i have 2 puffers, they are regular puffers of tropical fish, grow to be about 1'' and they are awesome, i have them with my tiger barbs in a 25 gallon tank, and i want more, but i want different kinds, anyone know a online site, or store around the utah area where i can get more???!!! im dieying to know....

if you have picks of your puffers put em' in here, i know one dude has a killer puffer named mona, i think??? but it is a beautiful fish.... puffer whatever, i just want moore, i will post a pick of them as soon as i can catch em'...

Puffers really shouldn't be kept with any other living thing that isn't ok to be eaten.
All the same, here's a list of freshwater and brackish puffers:
http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/...igure_eight.htm

You could research any of those that interest you and see if you are capable of properly housing them, but like I said, they really ought not be kept with anything you wouldn't want them eating. All species of puffer are aggressive, and since they have those sharp beaks, that's not a good thing for tankmates. Even dwarf puffers, which are what you have I'm assuming, should be kept in a species tank.

we have a forum section dedicated to oddball fish because we have plenty of people who love them. Although there is no regular type of puffer.

Hi,
From what I have read after reaching maturity the puffers will fight and most likely kill anything in your tank other than another puffer or a freshwater bumblebee goby if you can find TRUE freshwater gobies. (assuming you have dwarf puffers since you said 1")

I have been looking for some near me for a long time and for some reason I have seen figure 8 puffers, green spotted puffers, South American puffers but no dwarves :( :( :(

You are lucky to have them. I think it would be in your best interest to head on over to the "oddball section" and do some research to avoid any heartaches later if you add anything now and it is eaten.

On a good note, at least they are small and you can have a couple in a relatively cheap 10 gallon setup  I feel a case of MTS coming your way.

edit: Ok I feel dumb now since I started typing and now there are 2 replies already before me that weren't there 3 minutes ago ... I promise :*) :*)

I suspect that since the owner isnt terribly well informed about puffers they were probablysold a small Green spotted puffer or a green puffer because they are cheaper and most people dont know better untill there fish have died from being in freshwater too long.

It's entirely possible they're dwarf puffers, and at 1", I would assume they are... I've never seen any other puffer sold that small. It's not like they're terribly hard to come by... I got mine at a Petsmart for less than $3 each :dunno:

Do yours look like this, aquatic-Bizkut?

hah sorry forgot to mention they are dwarves, i knew it all along, just forgot to mention, i have learned a whole lot about them, and studied, i will most likely keep the male and female i have in the semi-comunity tank for a little bit, but im buying a 10 gallon setup just for some DPers.... and a bunch of breeding tanks of snails to feed them with, i plan on spending a few hundred but in the long run it will be kick ass...... here are some flix of the dwarfs.... they rule, and i have seen the female already challanging tobey, my huge mystery snail, like she wants to eat him, but he is 6X her size!!! it can still happen though, usually they will nip at other fish till they kill them, or the other fish kill them first.....

that is the male, who acts dead all the time, might be sick, or if you dont have the water cycle completely finished they will die, so hopefully he will be ok

and that is the frisky female who seems fine and healthy.....

Dwarf puffers are indeed lovely fish :) I do recommend you get that 10G for the puffers only as soon as possible though. While dwarf puffers are lovely fish that are really nice in personality when younger, it will change from one day on another (it might take days, months or years, but the day will come) and it will kill your tiger barbs.

In a 10G you can keep a max. of 2 dwarf puffers, no more. It's 5G per dwarf puffer :) If you have a spare tank, or are willing to get one, I recommend you get a 15G and buy a South American Puffer, or perhaps a 20G and get 2 :) They too have lovely personalities, and are all freshwater puffers. They're more tolerant of tank mates, but still can be killers ... I'd recommend you keep them too in a species only tank, or perhaps add a bristlenose plec or so.
