right i'm really into odd fish and I saw a puffer in the shop they had all differnt types red eye, pigmy, green, figure of eight, and a biggish one beggining with C I just need to know some stuff:

what water are they meant to be in.
will a catfish eat them
are they aggerssive
how big do they get

and I also want a fresh water stingray but dunno were to get them or how big they are.

what water are they meant to be in: depends entirely on species, mbu, SAPs and dwarfs are your commonly seen freshwater species, then there are figure8s and GSPs which are your commonly seen brackish, mistakenly sold as freshwater fish.

will a catfish eat them: what species? In the main puffers should be kept alone

are they aggerssive: depends on species, but as a whole, Yes

how big do they get; again depends on species, dwarfs get to 1 inch, figure8s to about 2.5", GSPs to about 6" and mbu to about 3feet

stingrays and puffers won't mix,
smallest rays hit about 16" including tail, most of the common species however can hit 24"+

with a hoplo catfish eat a drawf puffer or other way round or will it just be fine

i may go for drawf

Dwarfs are best kept alone, they require 3-5G per puffer so it would be easier to set up a small 5G tank just for one than risk the puffer taking chunks out of the hoplos fins

ummm....

are there any freindly puffers or odd fish

i'm thinking of getting a royal plec what they like

one you need to read up on it first before u go to the extreme.
Puffer Fish are brackish water fish
and stingrays are freshwater fish

read up a big no no for my tank at the moment

are there anyother fish people would reacorrmend

soz about the spelling :hyper:

Reading about the different species of odd fish would help greatly. Try searching through other member's threads to find some fish that are more suitable for you. I myself want to get some puffers, but have to move all of my fish over to a larger tank, reconstruct the smaller, then cycle it before they can be added. I've done a lot of research to be confident that I'll give them a healthy home. Remember that fish keeping is not just for looks, You're giving the fish a healthy and happy home to live in. Good luck with your fish : )

I wouldnt suggest adding a ray untill you have had a couple of years experience under your belt, and read up on Everything to do with them.
They are not a begginers fish, many of the rays tails contain intoxicating substances, therefor making them dangerous fish!! :D

There are freshwater, brackish & marine puffers, there are lots of threads on different puffers & other oddball fish. Rays really are a specialist fish, they require huge tanks & special care.

Reading & research really is worth it. :good:

What size is your tank? If you let us know the tank dimensions & other fish you have in there, then maybe we could help you decide on an unusual fish for your tank?

I have a MBU puffer with a few rays with no problems atall. I wouldnt suggest it wth any other species of larger puffer and with mbus only if you know there tempermant
