I just recently found a white puffy spot on my puffer, near his tail. There are also similar, but much smaller ones on his tail. DO not say this is ich, I know that it isn't. Is this fungus? How do I treat it? What are the causes? I will try and post a picture, but right now he is completely avoiding the camera so I can't get a good shot.

*shrugs* sure sounds like ich to me. What makes you so sure that it isn't?

I hope little Puffdaddy gets better! he's a cute little guy. :D

It's one big spot that is puffy.
Ok, yes I see what you mean. It could still be ich, but it's unlikely. Some sort of fungal infection then.

Must be a strong fungus though, to survive in a brackish tank.

I'd suggest melafix to avoid a secondary bacterial infection and help him heal, then gradually increase the salinity to combat the fungus.

Anyone got any other ideas? There's a puffer at risk here! this is important!

I've been treating with malacryn for about 3 days now, and it's already getting better. Tank is a bit white from the medicine though. WOhooo!

Melafix is for bacteria.
And if you read my post again, you will see that I wrote "I'd suggest melafix to avoid a secondary bacterial infection and help him heal"
