My blue spotted puffer eats flake food...is this odd for a puffer? I was always under the impression they were strickly live/frozen food fish. I just put in a little flake food every few days for my sixline wrasse and damsel, and just noticed tonight he was eating the flakes as well. I thought for sure he would spit it out right away, but nope...kept sucking it down. Must be the garlic in it. ha! :) Obviously will keep feeding them frozen, but was just curious if this was normal for a puffer.

Some puffers and other Tetraodontiforms (such as triggers or porcupinefish) will take some foods, others won't. I have a trigger which loves flake and pellets and a burrfish which will eat almost anything coming into the tank and even tries to eat drops of water tht have run down the side of the tank.

If you can get the puffer on flake it will be a good source of nutrition for him, it will certainly be more complete than many frozen foods (at elast without enrichment). The downside is being able to control the dental growth.
