Psycho Barb?

Hi guys,

Had a disturbing incident last week and just want yo see if it is just my fish that are mental. Have a fab community tank with variety - angels, aurelius(?) barbs, widows, penguin tera etc etc etc.

Last saturday I came home and found my Aurelius(?) barb with a cauliflower bloody nose. Bright red and swollen horrifically. Got some anti-infection stuff and has cleared up now, but he was swimming, statically, nose down for a good few days!! Ths is probably the second biggest barb, bout 4" long. Not sure if this was mating behaviour gone wrong or what - very weird.

Can anyone shed some light??

the barb might be suffereing of swim bladder disease

could he have got startled & banged into the glass or a rock or something?? i dont know that species of barb at all so cant really suggest anything else - sorry.

I agree with Milly, I suspect something spooked it and it took off at high speed into the glass or something. The "hanging about with the nose down" is classic barb "I'm not well" behaviour - regardless of the complaint. You say the swelling has gone, assuming the swimming is normal again and it is feeding etc., I'd chalk that up to experience.
