I saw some gorgeous plecs in my LFS today tagged as Pseudocanthus for £14. They are about 3 inches long and look like Pseudacanthicus spinosus that I have seen on Planet Catfish website. They are light with the dark spots and I fancy a couple. I appreciate they grow quite large and are meat eaters

has anyone kept these and couldd you offer any hints or tips? cheers

before I get one of these fellas this weekend has anyone got any advice on them?

not kept them, or any Pseuda for that matter but make sure they are eating, ideally i would have liked them to be in the shop for a week or two.

choose one with a nice round belly and check for sunken eyes.

the above applies for any plec purchase imo.

make sure the tank has adequate hiding places/cover.

I keep a pseudocanthicus L-25, or Scarlet pleco. The pseudocanthicus species are wonderful fish. I have been very pleased with mine. The spinosus has been one I've been on the look out for at my lfs. They like to hide, but when they come they are very impressive. They may attack fish liek gar and bichirs, but othe rthan that shrimp pellets and frozen shrimp are a favorite. I would get it if you have the space, they get to about 8-9 inches.

The fish have been there about 6 weeks which is when I first saw them. The bellys spot on and they'd been feeding on bloodworm, brine shrimp and cucumber soo spot on there. The owner of the sho is a plec enthusiast and been selling me fish for 17 yrs so tends to knock a bit of the rice for me and give honest opinions on the fish he sells
I got him today and he looks lovely on the bog wood... lets just hope he settles

The L25 is what I'm dying to get and the fish keeper said he'd keep a look out for me

Bugger I haven't got one of these at all its a Leporacanthicus joselimai!!! Just checked on planet catfish and its definately one of those
