I have only been on this forum for about six weeks now, but when I look back over the posts I have read and shared in I am very proud to have become a member of such a great group. When I first started reading I saw a lot of posts concerning bad conditions at many pet stores, but the general attitude was - I'm just one person, what can I do?

Just re-read some of the last few weeks posts. How many of you have gone into stores and pointed out sick or mistreated fish, how many more of you have taken some of those same fish home and either nursed them back to health or helped them have a clean, peaceful place to die.

You have taken on store employees, management, major chain stores, and internet salespeople. You have confronted friends and family members and have tried to educate them in proper care of bettas.

Pat yourselves on the back. You deserve it. One by one, life has become better for many bettas. One person can make a difference.

Keep it up!!!!!

Okay, enough.

And its not just betta's, I have read lots about members helping / pointing out / complaining about poor conditions in general, wrong tank mates, and fish that have been dyed . Its good to see people doing this, keep it up guys!

I agree with you all. Everyone here is so helpful and kind , but most of all patient with us newbies here. I myself have learned so much and want to continue to learn.
I even now have my mother and my boys looking at the fish when we go into pet stores and my youngest son, bless him, went to get the manager himself, when he saw something wrong with one of the Bettas. He stood there and watched the manager change his water and take medication off the shelf and put it into the bowl the Betta was in. It made him so proud that he helped a poor fish. I was very proud of him myself.

I agree. This is where I found out that plecs grow huge. As well as loads of helpful info, like plants and such. You guys are great.

And talking about plecs, I didn't know what they were called ultil 3 weeks ago! I called them 'suckerfish'

You guys are so sweet and adorable

I love TFF too, it's great watching members evolve into full fledged fish keepers :flex:

I agree, although I'm still new here I've been very touched and felt very welcome. I didn't have any of that new awkward feeling I usually experience when I first start communicating with a new group of people.

BettaMomma is a particular inspiration for me (and I'm sure many others), but especially because she is so like me in her thinking and personality. Before I wouldn't have felt I would have the strength to stand up to people and confront them about their neglect and abuse, but I'm feeling stronger and more empowered every day :)
