Protein Skimmer

hi finally set up my tank and have used a cheap potein skimmer on it
i have the top of it out of the water but, it seems to be collect water in the top of it instead of just the foam, what am i doing wrong?

its a protein skimmer with an airstone underneath just, basic!

Hmm not sure Rock cos not bothered to use one,get some pics of your tank up mate!

its nothing in it at the moment, have just set it up.

the protein skimmer seems to just fill with water very quickly any ideas how?

If its filling with water too quickly you need to have move it up higher.

Looking at that picture and making a wild guess I would have it so the airstone is only just under the water. Then if no foam is making it up to the cup grandually move it down a little bit until it does.

Oh and the skimmer wont work too well anyway when there is nothing in the tank as there is nothing for it to skim.

Agreed, raise it up, and you may have to restrict airflow a bit too

thanks, so when u go to empty ur skimmer, is it like a foam in the cup or does it turn into a liquid in the cup?

Usually its a brown paste stuff or if your wet skimming murky water.
You wont get that much though til you have fish or live stock of some sort
