Protein Skimmer

HI, just wondering.. i have just taken delivery of a protein skimmer which i purchased from e-bay rated at 600l/h with air pump, i would like to know if this can run/be modified to run from a powerhead/pump.

do you meant venturi powered? i.e. so a pump will such air in and mix it rather than using an air pump? if so, then there are no comercial kits available but a bit of diy and you could do it.

Thanx Ste2k3 thats what i meant didn't explain very well sorry. But yeah so how do you go about it with DIY or in my case destroy it yourself.

you could either buy a pump and pipe work from deltec or aquamedic which come with pin wheels or needle wheels and all you would need to do is drill two holes and fit the pipes onto the side.

if you look at the skimmer, you can see the air injection pump on the right which the pipe coming out at the bottom up in to the pump and back in again.

these would be quite expensive but would do a great job. you could do it the total diy way like this. I myself have done this and it works very well using a bio ball but making the skimmer body was dificult so I bought a cheap air driven one and fitted the pump to that.

WOW that is impressive and as i already have an driven skimmer i think i might give your diy option a try.......one question the skimmer i have has a pipe down the side for water inlet would this need to be blocked or could it be shortened to attach to the inlet of pump?

what make of skimmer is it? also, will t be sitting externaly and any leaks would be twice as painfull this way (in more ways that one ). I would sit it in the sump. all you really need is a reaction chamber (the main body/tube of the skimmer and a riser with a cup on top. then you will need an air injection pump and a pump to circulate water through.

not sure of make as bought 2nd hand and blind! but i plan to create space in the sump for it.yeah i have main body and collection cup! Air injection pump?? i know stupid question but there are so many people call things so many diff names pics ooooo splendid idea better with pics than words .....will get my skimmer unpacked again tmorrow and take pic to post so you can see what it looks like?
