proteen skimmer mistake

i have just started my first reef aquarium 45 gallons when i set it up i went to my lfs for filtration they sold me on a skilter 400 a bad chois i have since upgraded it by raising skimate cup 12 inches by sacrificing a vacume tube (i had two )i an also using an air stone. can any one come up with any ideas to make this actualy skim something other than water as skimmate

did you meen air stone or wooden air stone if its a stone then it will not skim as you need micro bubbles so the crud can attache to them so get a wooden air stone. if you have a wooden one then just raise the skimmer untill the bubbles stop just before it gets to the cup then it should work
