I've decided what fish I want in my new planted Amazonian set-up. I'm just worried that it seems rather a lot. What does anyone think?

And if you do think that it's too much, where would you cut??

Tank size: 36" x 18" x 18" plus sump (about 45 UK gallons altogether)

12 rummy noses
12 cardinals
2 rams
6 corys
3 ottos
2 bristlenoses (or similar small plecs)

Thanks! :)

(Oh and if you do suggest cuts, you're not allowed to cut the corys!!! ) :D

I would take out 4 or 5 of each tetra. I do think you are overstocked and this is the way I would go about it. This way you dont lose any species of fish that you have.

It might be a bit early to add that many algae eaters. I started with 1 otto and added 1 more every week. I had a pleco, but it was a poop machine so i took him back. Something to consider if you really want two of them.

I like the ottos a lot though. I'd sustitute 1 more otto in place of the 2 plecos but i would not add all 4 right away.

10 cardinals
2 rams
6 corys
4 ottos
1 bristlenose

What do you think of that?

I'd hate for you to have to cut the schooling fish down any more than 10.

And trading 1 bristlenose for 1 oto really helps you in the waste department. Plus, you don't have to worry about the plecs hassling each other.

Thanks for those suggestions!

Increasing the number of ottos and losing a plec does seem a good idea, yes. I do like silver dollars but I want to keep all my plants!!

Agreed, I wouldn't add all the algae eaters at the start. I was thinking of starting with a couple of ottos and some of the corys.

10 rummy noses
10 cardinals
2 rams
6 corys
4 ottos
1 bristlenose

Looks a good compromise!

why not just use alge pelets and cucumbers? That and you could switch the cardinals for neons that would be rather effective. Do not however go with SD's 30 gallons is not big enought for 1 let alone 3 and you wouldn't be able to have live plants.
