I have about 40 Danio fry in a 5 gal tank with a small corner filter. The Temp is about 80 degrees. There's no gravel. They just started to swim around. I've been feeding them Wardleys Small fry liquid food. How long should I be feeding them this food until I can switch to flakes? Also, how often should I change their water? This is my first time breeding, so I'm a little nervous. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

1 week then switch to crushed flakes.
10% water change every 2 days will stimulate growth,
but be carefull of the fry.
Put some stocking over the syphon tube to prevent sucking them up.

Thanks. I like the stocking idea. How quickly do the fry grow?

They should be at least 1cm in two months, however I have some that are only now 1cm and they hatched 3 months ago. It depends on the fish.

I've been advised to feed the fry frozen Lobster roe/eggs as soon as they are big enough to eat them.

Only catch is finding them. I have now placed an special order at my local shop. I'm still waiting for them.

Apparently the advantage is that, unlike daphnia and brine shrimp which are mainly roughage, lobster eggs are packed full of protein.

Apparently they are very good for rapid growth and colour enhancement!

If you do go along this road be careful not to overfeed as like any eggs they will go off and fungussy if not eaten.

After a week of liquid food, is it o.k. to feed them crushed flakes instead of brine shrimp? I don't know too much about brine shrimp. Is it a necessity? Also, on average how many fry usually survive? I've noticed less fry in the last day or two. They're so small that maybe I'm just not seeing them all. Maybe some have died.

Thanks.

Yes after 1 week feed crushed flakes.
Live BBS do not contain very much protine
but is does encourage swimming and therefor
promotes growth.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks.
