I just finished reading an interesting article on the effects on inbreeding in convict cichlids. The authors found that after 4 or 5 back crosses the offspring produced displayed flared opercula, curved spines, vertically sloping foreheads and abnormal swimming behaviour......sound like parrots to me. Perhaps parrots are simply inbred rose queens (midas x synspillum)?

Pretty much how short body convicts are produced(also called JB parrots).

It is possible that parrots are inbred cichlids of some sort though.
