hi there folks I seem to be having a problem with my red tailed shark. its tail is no longer red and the scales are no longer black but a dark shade of grey. i have tested the water and all readings are fine. Does anyone know if this happens with these fish or is this one unwell. also the shark seems to have no go in it. it usually darts about the tank but now it just hides in its cave.
many thanks

man, now we have two peeps by way of "Nav" oh dear... Lol :p

He is stressed. Check water temps. If all is fine with water aprams, its something to do with something in the tank, or outside it causing him to stress mega. My RTBS only went this colour when i took him in a baggie to the lfs. Goodluck mate, keep me updated!

No disturbances outside of the tank? Have you got any brightly coloured moving ornaments? If so remove them. Maybe ya cut just spooked him or sometin/? Keep an eye on him, and feed some frozen or live food and that may spike him back up again!

Try some Stresscoat and a little salt. Both have a calming effect on fish.

Could be stress from the ich meds. How'd you cure it anyway?

I has exactly the same problem with my RTBS. Turned out to be water quality, do daily water changes for approx a week (25-30%) and you should be OK, mine survived and is still going strong today, 2 years on.

Stress coat has proved successful for me also, could be worth a try.

Good luck

my redtailed shark does teh same thing. when he gets spooked he turns grey but he gains his color back pretty quick.

How is he as it could be a bacteria infection or a parasite.
