Fish Addict
Hello
I bought 5 Rosy barbs from a not-so-good LFS - when I got home and floated their bag, I saw that all 5 had badly nipped fins and 2 were really unwell - one was alot paler, and the other had a red sore on it's nose. I separated those 2 off into a small hospital tank, and the others went into quarantine with some Melafix.
Of the 2 really sick barbs, I lost the pale one first to dropsy that came on so fast I was shocked (my first case of dropsy). I went to a further away, but wonderful pet shop and he gave me some actual "fish amoxicillin" for the other barb as he was starting to puff up and the medicine's i'd tried for his ulcer weren't working. He passed, despite treatment
Anyway, needless to say I feel EXTREMELY idiotic for not checking the bagged fish before paying, but at this point I considered the petshop guy trustworthy. My problem now is that the 3 remaining barbs, after healing up with Melafix and looking very perky, are now in my 150l with some other fish. All seems to be going brilliantly, except for the fact that one of the barbs is getting a bit of a big stomach - but not in the dropsy way, if you get me. the stomach looks squared off and is quite dark and solid looking through light. Not looking like dropsy at all - great colouration, very active, eats well and no pineconing - just a square tummy!
Is this what they look like with eggs? Getting a pic is nigh on impossible cos they're feisty barbs, lol. I just want to know if he/she is sick, or just full of eggs!
