Ok I’m at a loss here, and to be frank about it,seriously annoyed.
Sometimes it’s best to leave things as is.I documented the change I did to the tank in the photos and videos section under 109g planted tank.
I added an extra filter with biohome media, but I won’t go into all that as it’s there to be read in the forum section I mentioned above.
The following day and the water was cloudy, which I put down to the bio balls I added to the filter,so I left it another day before doing a 50% water change. As soon as I did this the fish began flashing and rubbing against the substrate.A few of each species were doing this and I knew something was wrong.I did another water change the following day,and after I refilled with water I spotted that old familiar sugar grain marks on the pentazona barbs.I dosed esha 2000 for three days and performed water changes, and the flashing and rubbing calmed down quite a lot,and there were a lot less sugar grains on the barbs.
Tonight, after being away for a day I came home and found my sultan plec was dead(absolutely raging)to say the least.I had noticed it had been hanging around the top of the tank. Thanks to this behaviour coinciding with the change I made to the tank,I didn’t think anything of it,just that it had less hiding places and it had finally decided to show face. The fish are still flashing on the bottom and my zebra plec is near the filter outlet at the top of the tank, not a good sign.
I added a couple of plants about a fortnight ago and I’m wondering about them having carried something into my tank.I had thoroughly washed them, but who knows.
When I lifted the sultan plec out of the water it seemed to have a lot of mucus on its skin, wether this is normal I don’t know, though I do know fish do have a slime coat. The plants have now been removed and binned, just in case, but I fear the worst for the zebra. The snowball plec “seems”to be ok.
I am awaiting the arrival of ich x in the post.I did turn the temperature up,but with my corydoras I don’t want to turn it up too high.
Too add to this,I don’t think the hornwort liked the Temperature rise or the esha 2000,as a couple of days after this, the plant shed every needle, almost blocking both filter outlets and basically everywhere in the tank.I had to take everything out and clean top to bottom.A bad few days to say the least.

the white spot was introduced with something you added in the last couple of weeks.

to treat white spot, raise the water temperature to 30C (86F) and keep it there for 2 weeks or at least one week after all the white spots have disappeared.
the cories will be fine in this temperature for a couple of weeks.

the medication possibly contributed to the pleco's death, and some medications will affect plants.

I’ve turned to temp to 28 and I will turn it up to 30 tomorrow.
I can’t prove where it has come from, but it’s too much of a coincidence that I purchased things from a different place than usual just over a month ago.
Thanks for the advice Colin.Experience can’t be argued with?

Well I think I’ve got to the bottom of why the ich came about in the first place.I must have stressed the fish when I took the huge bit of bog wood out and redone the scape.I’ve had time to think back and I should have realised things weren’t good when the ruby barbs completely lost their colour,I mean they turned as white as the tiger barbs. That bog wood and slate must have been their comfort blanket.
On a positive note, after turning the temperature up to 30,the fish have stopped flashing, well only the very odd time to be honest. The yo-yo loach had stopped eating, along with the pentazona barbs, but they are ravenous now.
The zebra plec has went back down to the bottom too.
The ich appears to have dropped off the fish already, but I will keep this going til the 18th of June and that will be three weeks.
I would still be in deep lumber, worried about turning the temperature up that high with so many corydoras in the tank if it wasn’t for Colin-T replying to my situation,so a big thank you Colin.I know I have a bit to go before it’s out of the woods, but your advice has turned a very negative situation on a sixpence🤝
