Hi,

I'm having a serious problem with my fancy goldfish. About a month ago I noticed that one of it's eyes were completely missing. The only thing left was an empty socket. I thought that one of the other tanks residents might have attacked it or it hit an ornament. About a week ago I noticed his other eye went black and sank in. Now the othert eye has dissappeared, so it's totally blind. If it did indeed get an ilness what is it and are my other fish (2 commets) at risk as well?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Pete

Its a sign of tb im afraid or even dropsy. Have you noticed any swelling of the abdomen?
Isolate the fish if you can. If it was mine then i would euthenise it poor thing.

For the others you can try a bacteria med such as interpet number 9 i think it is for internal bacteria to kill off anything bad. Do plenty of water changes with gravel vacs before and after medicating.

Check your ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and ph just to check and what size tank, filtration, tank mates and sizes. Cleaning routine and anything added to the water.

TB??

Serious??

Hmmm, i wasn't gonna euthanase as it's eating fine and swimming ok ish... I thought it might have a bit of a swim bladder problem as it swims head down quite a lot.

Is TB infectious? if it is i will euthanase just to save the other fish :-(

Not sure but i think its past if the other fish eat it once its died. As its been there a month and no othe fish are showing symptoms then it may not spread like most diseases and only if other fish are exposed to the insides. The same is true of dropsy. As the fish isnt swimming properly then go with dropsy but just as a precaution keep your hands out the water as much as you can and make sure you have no cuts.
Best to destroy the fish. Clove oil mixed well with some tank water is a good way to do it.
Sorry.

Fish become hollow bellied, pale, show skin ulcers and frayed fins, and a loss of appetite. Yellowish or dark nodules can appear on the body or eyes. Curvature of the spine can occur, along with a loss of scales and colour.

I got this from the websiite you mentioned bribones,

The fish is showing none of these symptoms, it's belly is relatively normal. I say that coz it's a pretty fat fish and it waddles everywhere rather than swims!

There are no ulcers or frayed fins and it is eating well, even though it'e blind.

There are no "Yellow or dark nodules" on it's body, and it's spine, scales and colour seem fine...I doubt this is a case of TB. Is there anything else which would affect just the eyes?

You dont need all the symptoms to show at once. TB is a progressive disease and may take several months to show all the symptoms.
I did mention dropsy as well as that too can cause eyes to appear sunken or fall out.
Its not nutritional as you are feeding a good diet.
