i've had over 10 snails this far...all of them sold to me as "mystery snails" at different LFS though I know that's just a cover name that encompasses different species.

anyways, these are the three I have left now:

the orange one is the new addition.
i've had the other two for 2 months or more by now.
since I added this new orange one, my plants are all being devoured. it's nearly killed (read: eaten) by dwarf hairgrass, it's eaten all the new leaves from my melon sword and is systematically eating the leaves off my other swords. worse thing is the #### takes a big chunk of plant material and moves with it...resulting in less than a week since I did a thorough vacuum of the gravel, the whole gravel bed is covered in plant material.

why is this snail so different in behavior from my other two? this one eats constantly and it eats my plants, versus my other two (and all my past ones) that never ate my plants.

i can't keep that snail if it'll continue to eat my plants...what would you suggest I do with it?

thanks :good:

the 2 old ones are Pomacea Bridgesii these will eat only decaying plants, the other is a Pomacea canaliculata and will make short work of any plants you have in your tank.

thanks for the help...i guess i was right after all!
i took it out of the tank and put it in a cup with tank water till i can figure out what to do with it.
i passed by PetSmart and got two more of the bridgesii (same place where i got my older ones) so now i've got 4 not counting the problematic one...

quick question if you dont mind me asking, how can you tell by looking at the picture? or is it my description that allowed you to identify it?

cannas are usually larger then bridgesii and the shell shape is differant.

www.applesnail.net is a fab place for alsorts of info :good:
