I recently bought an Eheim 2213 Canister Filter and I set it up perfectly, but now i have a problem trying to let the water come out of the outtake tube. My intake is full of water, so is the filter, and the water stops at the top of my outtake tube.

I've tried sucking, blowing, closing the valves, opening the valves, turning on the filter at different times, and nothing seems to work. There isnt a nob or anythin to prime itself so I need to do it manually.

If anyone could please give me some advice... It's been 2 days and i havent left the house because of this thing. It's getting very frustrating and I have run out of options.

Do you have to pump it to prime the filter? Mine is an auto start up enheim but used to have a fluval i had to prime, bloody handle snapped off lol.

Id start from scratch again, empty all the water etc, you might have an air block. I used to have to set all up, let water hit the canister have someone pump it as i sucked on the outlet tube till water came thru while plugged in and running, not the nicest thing but had to be done!

Good luck

OK, get a bucket and lay down a blanket, manual priming can get a bit messy :good:

Un-hood the outlet and position yourself and it over the bucket and blanket. Check the taps are open and suck on the outlet for a few seconds (ensure the canister and pipes are completely empty first). After this, you should hear the filter filling up. Eventually, water will come out the outlet. When it does, allow the bucket to fill up and then close the outlet tap to stop but maintain the syphen. Sit the outlet hose back on the tank and re-open the outlet valve. Finaly, switch it (the filter obviously) on and off it should go :good:

:hi: to TFF BTW

All the best

EDIT to add. If the filter does not "self prime" after being re-connected to the mains, i.e. does not require manual priming, then you should never run a filter while it is not primed correctly. It will damage the impeller and/or impeller chamber and/or bushes...

Ill try that right now.. god this is annoying lol... and thank you for the nice welcome. Names Patrick

ahh once i release the output valve the water automatically shoots back down... should i turn on the filter while the valve is still closed and immediately open the valve after i turn on the filteR?

Let the water in the pipe drop back, it should only go as far as the water line in the tank, only on the outside :good: If the rest was suscessful, you are ready to switch on

EDIT to clarify, switch on with the valve open :good:

Am i supposed to wait a little before the water starts shootin out of the outtake pipe or is it instant?

It's not working and i have no idea why... like the water seems like its keeping the siphon, and once i open the valve it goes down but when i turn on the filter the water only comes back up a few more inches higher... i dont get this at all. i pretty much did everything u said

EDIT: The water stops at the very top of the tank...

A long while back i was trying to prime an eheim and no matter what i would do it would only run as long as i was priming it continuously, turns out i had a hose improperly connected up at the top where it makes a right angle and goes back down into the tank.

What this taught me is, check ALL your fittings. ALL your valves EVERYTHING. if any air CAN get in, it WILL get in, and break your cycle.

All i had done was push the hose up too far on the coupling and was causing a pinhole sized air leak, enough to break the cycle.

hope this IS your problem so that it can be easily fixed. i pulled my hair out too trying to figure this one out, tore it all apart and started over before i figured it out.

As above, it could be an air leak/lock, or it could be an impeller jam or other form of blockage :/

Is it making any form of noise?

Well i think i did see a few air bubbles but as soon as i lifted the tube the air just came out. I cant really cant see anything else i did wrong.. there aren't any kinks or loops either.

Oh there's actually an open elbow like piece that i attached to the end of the tube and that hole maybe causing the problems because thats pretty much where the flowing stops.

Ahh I've been smoking cigarettes like a crazy man because of this. I'm so stressed out lol..

I should try to make each tube connection tighter and see how it goes from there. Im starting to not like this eheim. Never thought this would be a lot more work than a hang on type filter.

EDIT: Yes theres a noise like its kinda struggling

OK, so it is making noise. Not a hum, more a grateing sound I guess?

If so, try running the pump with the outlet in a bucket, as there is probibly an airlock in the impeller chamber. Running the pump while under syphen should clear this. :good:

U got it. More like a grating noise. Well right now i tightened everything but i think i found the problem... I cut the tube at the top for a piece i shouldnt have cut... :/ thats why theres a huge air gap... I might have to buy a new flexible pipe now... I feel dumb.

Ah, yes, air getting into the system will be the caurse of the air lock. I was going to say that Eheim Classics getting an airlock is quite rare...

Still, now you have your problem, you can fix it. New hose is cheap, my LFS charges 50p a meter for 16mm/22mm hose :good:
