I want to get a new piece of driftwood for my new 65gal, but it is much to big for any pot i own.
Could i just soak it in the bathtub or something?

wouldnt it catch on fire if u boiled it because its wood?

boiling it will help tannins leach out faster, but the main purpose is to kill bacteria. I'd say throw some meds on it if it's in the tub if you're concerned about nasties .... then give the tub a great scrubbing.

GL with the driftwood! and post some pics when it's in the tank! :)

I soaked mine in the bath for about 2 days in hot water. It meant the bathroom was permanently full of steam and the tub got discoloured. Took a bit of scrubbing to put right.

I then put it in an old cool box, full of hot water with the lid on, did the job a lot better than the bath.

mine was too big aswell. i put it in a bucket, poured boiling water on it, then just left it to soak. worked fine. if that failed though i was planning to use my mum's preserving pan...like a big evil cauldron that people cook marmalade in. if you mum doesn't make marmalade thats not an option though. :)

ya know the ocean catches on fire, yeah there could be oil on it, but it still can catch on fire.

Well I really don't think he, or anyone, would be boiling driftwood in oil !!

And of course it's not the ocean that's on fire, it's the oil !!!

Why am I even responding to this?

because ur trying 2 make fun of me?

and im not dumb, i said it was the oil. im sure that if the water got 2 hot it would evaporate quite quickly, the water could then beb one, depending on how long u boil it for, then the woods by itself and then it could catch on fire. anything could catch on fire.

and i know no one would be boiling drift would in oil,
