hello everyone :good: I was thinking about setting up a marine tank. But I hear they are REALLY expensive. Is that true? my setup would be a nano around 10-20 gal with a pair of clown fish and some sort of shrimp

thanks

chris :hyper:

I counted up the total my tank cost last night

i wish i didnt tbh for the tank, sump, pumps, lights/tubes cost well over £700. My tank is custom though and doesnt use the normal method of water movement (powerheads)

Im sure if you bought a river/reef tank or simulair you could probably get salty water in for less than half what i paid. im sure someone with one will comfirm that though

It can be expensive and is largely dependant on the size of the tank, the amount of live rock and other equipment. That said, you can pick up some bargains from time to time so shop around. Ebay is a great place to look. There is always someone selling off their tank/contents/equipment.

It's as expensive as you make it, if you really look around for things you can get some real bargains, you'll need at least 20 gallons for a pair of clowns IMO.

WOW that is a good deal! when/if I start a marine aquariumIm getting it!Also how much do corals cost? and an anemonea for the clown fish (if they need it)

the cost of corals vary alot depending on the size and type you want. The type of corals you keep depends on the lighting you have.

you can buy frags for £5 or so and i imagine they can go up to £100 etc. for most soft corals your probably looking at around £35 ive only bought a few from the lfs, i buy most from other reefers.

Clowns dont need an anemone

there basicly bits people have cut off a mother coral, if it gets to big and someone wants to reduce the size they cut a section of and sell it. someone might be able to explain it better though.
