Ok I've have my betta Trent for all of 4 days.

I gave him a 5gal tank, gravel, stones and a cave. He liked it-ya know he swam
around making bubbles and such.

So this morning I put on the background for his tank- careful not to block his view of his neighbors in my 20gal.
And he is has now be trowing a temper tantrum for 15 min!

Flaring, running into the part of the tank with the background---he even turned a flared at me!!!! Needless to say, I stepped slowing away from the tank.

I know I'm no martha steward but the tank looks fine, and the background of plants makes the tank look very cozy.

As anyone else had to design for a picky betta?

LOL

whoas, thats pretty intense. i've never experienced anything like that before, nor have a heard about it. has he calmed down at all? i really dont know what to suggest - sorry, whish i could be more help. I'm curious to know what others think anf suggest. Best of luck getting this sorted out. :)

dont you mean martha stewart? lol

um, is there maybe a guppy or betta or anyother kind of fish on the background?

just take the background off it it continues.

No fish in the background, just plants and water and some rocks.

And I don't suppose it matters if I spelled her name wrong now, because instead of her last name we will soon know her by her inmate #. LOL

Putting a background on could make it easier for your fish to see his reflection in that pane of glass - I think he'll get used to it - it's the same thing as hanging a mirror...

Yeah, I'm guessing he can either see his relfection, or of there are color contrasts that resemble fins in the background in some areas, he may think it's another betta.

My betta loved having a background in his tank!!! Though i think he can see his reflection better as he spends hours just going up and down looking at the back of the tank... He's never flared in all the time ive had him so i guess thats as close as he'd come to doing it! :) I wouldnt worry about your's! He's probably just being a bit territorial! Im sure he'll calm down after a couple of days

:)

Thanks everyone, you were right.

I think he does believe he is seeing another Betta

He's calmer now, thank goodness.

Yes that's exactly what happened to my betta when I added a background... he was constantly flaring at it, thinking it was another betta.
