Hi there,

I have two small peices of bogwood im preparing for my betta tank. Its currently soaking in a bucket but do i need to treat the water in that bucket with a tap water dechlorinator so it doesnt soak up the chlorines in the water or does this not matter?

How long is it a advised to leave it for? I hear some people saying to boil it but doesnt this kill off the beneficial bacteria?

Looking to attache plant after it goes in if that is needed to be known!

Any help greatly appreciated?

Thanks
Ben

if the wood is bought dry, it has no beneficial bacteria on it. tbh even in a cycled tank there wouldnt be a vast amount on it.

i usually clean the wood from dirt, leave it in a bath of really hot water all day and then pour boiling water over it. then i pop it in my tank, the tannins do leach out but ive never had '' tea '' water.

I have some mopani which I have been soaking for six weeks so far and its still releasing a hell of a lot of tannins. I use boiling water which I periodically change when it looks pretty dark.
