pregnant zebra danio

i would like to see an answer to this as well. i have 1 golden zebra danio that is very, very FAT compared to the rest of mine. to add to this question, how long will a fish be pregnant before she has babies?

Well, seeing as danios are egg layers, not live bearers, she wouldn't be 'pregnant'. She may very well be gravid, however, which means she's holding eggs. Danios are prolific breeders and probably breed within your tank regularly, if water conditions are good. However, they eat their own eggs, and any they missed would most likely get eaten by other fish in the tank.

If you want to breed danios, you take well conditioned danios and put them in a bare tank with some marbles on the bottom. String some fine netting across the entire tank, several inches below the water line. The fish spawn, the eggs drop through the netting, and they cannot be eaten. Then put the adults back in their original tank. There's a bit more to it than this, but unless you have a lot of space for the fry, there's not a whole lot of point in breeding them, imho.

Well I have two danios in a tank now (Two left from 8) anyway. I had a heater breakdown and fish died...One danio survived. So i put her (Now I knwo) into a different tank. She was doing fine untill she began to get 'fatter'. I thought obviously its a female and she must be having eggs. She wouldn't lay them. So I simply bought another danio (male) and as soon as it happened (one day later) i found eggs on the ground and she wasn't fat. I'm not going to get any more danios. The two of them are doing ok (I know they should be in min six) but there ok. ;)
