We really need some more information.

How big is your species tank and how long has it been set up? Did you cycle it?
Water stats (ammonia/nitrite/nitrate) would be very useful.

Getting really huge with scale damage and then dying could well have been dropsy. It's usually caused by poor water quality and usually fatal. The blood coming from the anus would have been from the rupture of an internal organ, and the resulting shock and blood loss caused the fish to die. Bloating can also be caused by constipation or impaction usually due to poor diet - what do you feed, how often and how much?

Some photos of the fish would be very helpful. It's not unheard of for them to become impacted with fry, sort of like females of other species will get eggbound if they don't get the opportunity to spawn. I don't know why it happens or how to treat it because it's never happened to one of my fish. But if we get photos we can tell you whether they are pregnant or have dropsy.

hi there, my species tank is 60 litres, it has been set up for 3 months, yes it was cycled.
temp 77c
0 ammonia
o nitrite
15-20 nitrate
ph 7.1 - 7.3

i feed tetra min flake food twice a day, frozen blood worms once a week and brine shrimp once every 7-10 days, i feed enough for them to eat for about 2 minutes, if it is dropsy why is it only the females?

I find it difficult to get good pics but i will try and post soon.

Hard to tell... the water stats are perfect and you feed them well. It seems odd that the male isn't sick. How big are the fish? Very large strains of livebearers often have longer gestations. It's particularly obvious in mollies, the small strains go for 4 weeks and the big sailfins drop every 8 or 9 weeks. Those platies are very, very big though and have oddly shaped bellies for pregnancy.

Yoo hoo! Wilder!

That is not a problem at all i dont think, she looks very heavy pregnant to me.

You dont need anything, SHE IS PREGNANT (heavy)

If your concerned about bloating which i personally dont think it is, feed it a frozen pea (cook for few mins, deshell and feed a little bit to it)

thanks 5teady, i will try that if they don't pop in the next couple of days, maybe i have just have a complete stud of a male, lol. i could understand 1 or 2 been very heavily pregnant but all four are just huge, just like the one that died a couple of months back. as you can see in the background of one of the pics the male isn't bloated, they are all very healthy in my opinion but i am still worried after what happened last time.

Trust me, if there is females in there and a male, all the females will be pregnant lol..

Is there any chance you can get a close up pic of her?

haha i know that 5teady but its unusual in my experience that they are all so big, usually they give birth before they get this big. I will try and get a closer pic for you now.......

I still think she is just heavy pregnant, do you have a trap you could place her in overnight?

If so, put her in, out the lights and let her settle, giv it 48 hours max, if still no drop, release her...

I still recommend feeding her the pea to be on the safe side ;)

i do have a trap but they just stress them out too much for my likeing, plus i have 3 other pregnant ones that are all similar sizes so other than out of interest what benefit would this have? i will feed the pea though.

If you put this one in the trap for 48 hours max, out the lights in tank when do so and just leave her be.. she may drop, some fish are buggers for holding on to thier fry to long (especially balloon mollies) and the fry end up coming out dead.
