any ideas will really help me out.

by the way im new to this so really anything you could tell me would be great! my name is becky.

Did the platy grow in size over time or balloon up over night? The pleco looks like your typical common pleco. What size tank do you got as those plecos reach large sizes, more than 12 inches very easily.

i just have a 10 gallon im getting ride of the pleco today actually but i want to know what kind he is so that i can tell the people what he is. but my platy. she gradually grew to that size but she keeps getting bigger and bigger by the day.

Do you see her poo at all, if so she is most likely pregnant. As long as she is swimming around as normal and still eating you should have no worries. As for rearing the fry when they come I would not be much help there as I have no experience with platies. Try the live bearers section of the form. The pleco I'm pretty sure is common pleco. Try planetcatfish.com for an ID.

she goes to the bathroom all the time. more than all my other fish do. but should i move her and if so when? i dont want the little ones to get eaten or harmed and i dont want to stress her out. what should i do?

Hi becky, with your platy I would buy her a breeding net. It is a boxed shaped net that attaches itself to the side of the tank. Put her in there until she gives birth then take her out.. Make sure you have food for the fry. You can either buy extremely fine food for fry, (or ground up your normal fish food yourself, just make sure it is like powder) or you can get a product called InterPet Liquifry No2. Make sure its number2 because thats for livebearers. All the best.

By the way when your platy has the fry if you use a breeding net make sure you turn your tank light off. Fry are photosensitive and light will kill them.

Also, I am not completely sure but I didn't think you can mix cichlids with any other fish apart form cichlids. I don't think they make good community fish.

yeah i was thinking about getting her one of those. umm my cichlids are going to be getting thier own tank soon as with my platy they are really only mean to each other not so much my other fish. but they are getting to big to be in a tank with all my other fish so soon they will be happily by themselfs with others like them. :D but yeah im going to get her a breeding net tomorrow she is starting to act really wierd latly.
