I have a maybe pregnant platy that is hiding under plants and is wombling when it is swimming. The stomach is a little big. I don't know if it is in labor or about to die. It is also breathing real rapidly. Please Help

Oh gosh. I'm not sure I can be of much help. It could be in labor. It could have a swim bladder problem. I read earlier today that for a swim bladder problem, it could be from over feeding and/or constipation. Maybe skip a day of feeding and then take a cooked pea, w/o the skin, mush it up and place it in the tank. I'm not sure why but this is supposed to be good for constipation.

You say it's breathing rapidly. How is your ammonia/nitrite levels. It could also be ammonia poisoning. Is there any more information you can share?

Does anybody have any other suggestions for Junior??????? Hang in there.

When platys give birth, they sometimes look like they're stressed with gills going really fast. Keep an eye on her, it shouldn't last long (30mins to an hour), then it should calm down. If you think she's giving birth, watch her closely. You may be able to see the caudal fin of a fry sticking out of her.

How pregnant is she? Do you know if she's ready to give birth (ie: do you know how to tell?). The shaking is a bit worrying.
