 This may be a silly question, but do ottos give birth to live fry or lay eggs? I recently got two new ottos and one looks pregnant (very fat). I've had ottos before, but none pregnant. Can I expect any babies?

Otos can never be pregnant, that's because they lay eggs :p You probably just have a fat one, breeding otos is a pretty rare occurance :)

If it looks like this - it's just well-fed. :D

Otos have a surprisingly large appetite, and are used to eating a lot. (Like picture shows) A common phrase is " A fat oto is a happy oto" :p

Well, thanks for your replies, and I know now that she wasn't pregnant, but she did lay eggs all over one of my plants. I can see the eggs, and she isn't that fat anymore. I'm not sure though if my other otto is male or female. I'm just very surprised that none of the fish are bothering the eggs. They are just stuck onto plant leaves like little bubbles.

Hi Stacey269 :)

I'm a newcomer to otos myself, having just bought my first ones a week ago. I hope that I am as fortunate as you were to have them spawn.

Here's an interesting link that has some information about them and also links to other sites about them. I hope you find it helpful. :D
