My pregnant mollies keep randomly dying.
I only have one left now - and Im hoping to resolve the issue in time.

Water test came back all good except!
Ammonia levels are too high.
But surely this would be killing other fish? not just the pregnant ones?

Either way, I'm going to do regular water changes over the next week to get the level back to normal.

Also,
the males were harassing the preg females alot - could the stress of this be killing them?

Some fish will always be more sensitive to things like ammonia than others.

What exactly was the ammonia level at?

Roughly 0.50 I believe.
Very hard to tell on the colour chart D:

That could be the cause then. I'm assuming, though I don't know for sure, that pregnant females need more oxygen than other fish, and raised ammonia does prevent fish from taking up oxygen from the water efficiently.

The stress of being chased by the males could also be a contributing factor; what's your male to female ratio like?

Okay, thanks!

Well, it started off as 2 males, 6 females.
Now its down to 2 males, 4 females

Since this post I lost four more fish. Another preg molly, a molly, two siamese fighter females.
All due to a dodgy filter.

Filter has now been replaced
