I had a very pregnant ember tetra that I have been watching the last few days waiting to see if she would lay her eggs. Today she started swimming around strangely going very fast straight up then down and twisting around. This went on for maybe 10 minutes then she just floated to the top. I took her out of the aquarium in a small plastic container and found the she was dead. I went to pick her up and her eggs started to come out in the cup. I am new to egg bearing fish so is there anything I can do for the eggs? I think she died trying to give birth. :(

The eggs will not be fertilised :). Spawning occurs when she releases the eggs.

Thanks, I figured that just checking. The males at first were chasing her around until she went haywire.

They will probably appreciate it if you put the eggs back into the water ;)

That was the first fish I lost since starting my tetra tank 4 months ago. :( I was looking forward to baby embers. I put the eggs back in and let nature run it's course.

:rip:
Its always tough, but obviously you are doing a lot right if your tetras are spawing for you and you already have some fry to show for your efforts. That does make it all worth while.

Thanks, it does. I will have to pick up a replacement ember to keep my shoal at 8, going to the LFS always brightens up my day.
