As some maybe aware I'm currently setting up a Marine tank and was wondering if anyone as ideas for getting a power head to emit some other kind of flow than a linear jet? I thought about using one of the supplied connections and melting it slightly and then squashing it to form an elliptical shape? Not sure I will work effectively or not?

A few reefers just hack the nozzle part off so that you are left with more of a slit.

Through this randomisation can occur because the impeller can spin either way at start up and as such if you connect the pump to a wave controller then the flow direction becomes random at each time it is turned on.

the nozzle I have on mine has a screw thred and you can change for a smaller connection diameter ( 20 and 15mm) when this is removed I'm left with a hole, what do you meen by slit?

Most powerheads have the nozzle fixed to the main pump housing that contains the impeller. You just have to hack the whole nozzle off right down to the main body (you will expose the impeller chambre) and the hole left will be more elipsoid than than the circular nozzle, there is a thread on RC about it, I'll try and dig it out when I get home from work.
