I just got a used red sea wavemaster for 40 bucks. A steal if i've seen one. I know you can't use koralia powerheads with this as they will burn out from starting and stopping... does anyone here have experience with this wavemaster and could advise on which powerheads would work well with this controller?

I expect you will need the 12v Korallias or the controllable streams

the only problem with the controllable koralias is that they aren't made to turn on and off. the koralia controller only turns them down to like 10-15% so there isn't a start/stop ever.

I was thinking maxijets, but they don't make big enough powerheads for a 90 gallon.

If i can't find any, i'll just use the non controllable koralias without the redsea :-/

Maxi mods would be a good idea but be careful. They're POWERFUL. Like insanely powerful. I'd suggest only modding a maxijet 900 tops for a 90g tank. I tried modding a 1200 and it was eons too powerful for my 65g.

There are LOTS of pre-made kits out there nowadays for very reasonable prices. I'd suggest buying one of those. bulkreefsupply.com has some good maximod kits, and there's plenty of others out there if you do a quick google search.

Also, do NOT build it with the propeller stop since you're using the wavemaker. Sure, sometimes it'll start backwards, but that in and of itself is not a bad thing and will randomize flow even more. When they start backwards, they just shoot water out the sides (albeit not as fast as when they start in the correct direction) but they still work. Would be neat to see how a tank behaved with that type of setup

Thanks for the input ski.

I actually bought the maxi jets and mods off of drsfostersmith.com. The mods were 11 dollars a piece which is not bad. I read alot and decided the 1200 would be WAY too much power, so i bought the 900s.

I will be starting a journal august 1st or 2nd when I move into my new place and set up the 90g, so you can check out how the maxijet mods are working with the wavemaster.

Cool man. Yeah you can't beat the price of the pre-made mods. I made my own, but it was far from cheap
