Powerhead too strong?

I have two powerhead 402's (270g/h each) in my tank, with only one running at a time. I have noticed that my damsel will be swimming backwards alot towards whichever powerhead is on. I have lowered the output of the powerhead with the control knob, but he still seems to be getting drawn towards it. Any ideas?

Is he being pulled tward the intake? I have 1 in my 60gal and my chromis has no probs.

he's staying to the bottom of the tank, and the powerhead intake is at the top. However, it loos like hes either swimming backwards or being dragged to the side of the tank and bumping into the glass. My smaller damsel just hangs out in the live rock.

try making the intake next to the glass and the out to the glass too...

I really dont think that there is a problem. Reef surges is the one thing that we (as hobbiests) canot re-create in our home tanks. If you have ever been diving on a reef with such surges you will feel the awesome power of the ocean Fish and inverts are well trained in coping with this environment.


If it make you feel beter then try to re-direct the flow so its dispersed quickly (perhaps against the glass or something?) the flow is still fierce but not necessarily direct.

If you have varying currents in your tank thats awesome. People spend lots of money trying to replicate currents. Besides its a damsel, it could probably survive being sucked up, swirled around the impeller and spit out!
